The Art of Comme des Garcons

Nothing new can come out of a situation without suffering.

Rei Kawakubo

Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garcons, is the subject of another exhibit currently at the Met. Kawakubo’s line has always struck me as more of sculpture that clothing.  I wouldn’t call it wearable, but it is certainly fun to look at.

Irving Penn Centennial at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Met is celebrating American photographer, Irving Penn’s 70 year career with a retrospective of his work.  Penn was known for his fashion photography and portraits.  The photograph above is an iconic fashion study of his wife and muse, Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn in a Balenciaga Mantle coat for Paris Vogue 1950.

Legendary Authors and the Clothes They Wore

I love this new book by Terry Newman.  It features literary icons like Samuel Beckett, Joan Didion and Patti Smith, to name a few, and the influence that clothing has on the worlds they inhibit. If you like writers and like style..you’ll love this book!
